Q: Rhinoplasty for men has become more popular recently in Canada. Why is that?

Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra: For years, there has been a lot of stigma around the idea of men getting cosmetic surgery. People used to think that plastic surgery is only for women, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Men deserve to feel confident in themselves, too. I feel like society has changed now and people have become more honest and open about plastic surgery, which I feel has helped empower men to undergo surgeries like nose jobs or Botox. These men are breaking societal norms and showing people that getting plastic surgery as a man doesn’t make you less masculine.

Q: What are some reasons a man might choose functional rhinoplasty over cosmetic rhinoplasty?

Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra: A man might opt for functional rhinoplasty to improve issues such as breathing problems caused by a deviated septum. Especially for men who live an active lifestyle, improving nasal function can help improve breathing during exercise and sports. With functional rhinoplasty, the goal is to provide a balanced and natural-looking result that complements the patient’s facial structure. As surgeons, we aim for subtle enhancements instead of drastic changes.

Q: How has technology helped rhinoplasty become more achievable for men?

Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra: Technology has played a huge role in improving the accessibility of rhinoplasty for men. Things like 3D imaging and computer simulations give patients a better idea of potential results. There are also non-surgical methods of rhinoplasty, like temporary dermal fillers. Clinics are offering virtual consultations for people who are curious about the procedure but don’t want to commit to surgery right away. These technologies are giving men more confidence to explore the possibilities of rhinoplasty.

Q: Cosmetic surgery is a big financial commitment for a lot of people. In what ways are clinics making rhinoplasty more affordable for average Canadians?

Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra: As surgeons, we understand that the cost of surgery can hold people back from getting the procedure that they want. The average cost of a rhinoplasty procedure in Canada ranges between $6,000 and $15,000, depending on the province and the complexity of the surgery. Some clinics are offering flexible payment plans to make it easier for clients to afford treatments. Instead of making the client pay the full price upfront, some clinics might offer an option where a patient pays a deposit and the rest of the cost is split into instalments spread out over a certain amount of weeks or months.

Q: What advice would you give to men who are interested in getting a rhinoplasty procedure?

Dr. Zahi Abou Chacra: Do your research. A nose job is a big surgery, and it takes a real professional to know how to do it well. It’s important that you choose a reputable clinic that aligns with your needs. Figure out a budget plan and inquire about cost with different clinics to see what payment options are available. Also, don’t worry about what people might think. If you know that getting the procedure will improve your life in some way or another, whether it’s for more confidence or improved breathing, go for it. Don’t let society dictate what you can and cannot do with your own body.
